Traditional powwow brings community together

MARQUETTE — Vibrations from the drums pulsed through Vandament Arena Saturday as dancers in bright or traditional regalia spun and stepped to the beat, always moving clockwise around the sacred circle.
Although it might be the most visual aspect of the “Learning to Walk Together” traditional powwow at Northern Michigan University, the powwow isn’t all about dancing.
“This is all about community,” said NMU Native American Studies professor Grace Chaillier. “It’s a gathering of our peoples.
