MARQUETTE — Several individual and season champions were crowned during the final installment of the Upper Peninsula State Cyclocross Championship held Nov. 14 at the Tourist Park in Marquette. The course featured near-equal shares of pavement, grass and single track. In the kid’s race, which saw only two competitors, Chase Juntti took the win, followed by Finn Whalen. In the UPCROSS series standings, it was Finn Whalen on top, followed by Juntti and Ella Whalen. In the women’s competition, Andrea Pernsteiner continued her winning streak by claiming her sixth win in a row. Nicole Alexander, a second-place finisher in every race leading up to the championships, sat this one out while recovering from the flu. That left the door wide open for Christina Bennet.
