painting: Giving seniors a creative outlet

NEGAUNEE — Painting class is now in session at the Negaunee Senior Center. But there’s very little worry of running in the hallways or dipping your neighbor’s pigtails in an inkwell. Instead, these students are a motivated group, nearly all composed of senior citizens, each working on a project of his or her own choosing. Instructor Roger Junak of Greenwood Location works his way around the tables full of canvases, palettes and tubes of acrylic or oil paints, checking on his students’ progress and helping out with suggestions. “Really this is more about group therapy,” he said with a chuckle as several nearby women students laughed with him. “A lot of people have been taking these painting class for years. “It’s something they just enjoy doing.

NEGAUNEE — Fifty years after graduation isn’t too late to start a tradition.
That’s what members of the Negaunee High School Class of 1951 proved nearly a decade ago while preparing for their “golden” anniversary reunion.
March 10 Registered Dietitian Day
MARQUETTE — The third annual Registered Dietitian Day will be March 10. Registered dietitians are the leading nutrition experts in the health care field. They study nutrition for four years, followed by a nine- to 12-month internship.
