MARQUETTE — Call him lucky. Or call him a prodigy. Either way, 14-year-old deer hunter Adam Dollar made his first buck a big one. The Big Bay resident shot a 10-point buck on Sunday afternoon, the opening day of the regular firearms season. The 4 1/2-year-old whitetail that dressed out at 188 pounds. Dollar was hunting just down the road from his family’s 80-acre property in a remote area of northwestern Marquette County near Dodge City, which is about 8 to 10 miles west of Big Bay. Dollar was hunting from a ground blind with his father, John Dollar, when they spotted the buck descend from a mountainous area and move across their line of sight. “This is my third year out hunting, but it’s the first buck I’ve ever seen,” the Marquette Senior High School freshman said. His father added that they don’t get much time in the field because of Adam’s busy schedule that includes hockey practices and games. “The first thing I saw was his horns come out from the pine trees,” Adam said.
