MARQUETTE — Wintertime photography can offer some of the most exciting opportunities. Great reflections, shadows, pastel skies and unusual astronomical occurrences are just some things to look forward to during the year’s coldest months. Before leaving for an adventure of outdoor photography, remember to bring plenty of batteries. The backup batteries can be switched out as the camera begins to lag. Keep the batteries inside a pocket or glove close to the body. Body heat will warm them and they can be alternated again. Once making the trek into the outdoors remember that snow will be the main subject throughout the scene. Because of its color, snow has a high reflective quality and at different times of the day can have different effects. When setting up for the shot, a photographer should pay close attention to the camera’s settings. Shawn Malone, professional photographer and owner of Lake Superior Photo, said, that in direct sunlight, snow is very bright.
